Bar-bribery: Opposition stages protest in the Assembly

Thirurvananthapuram: The Opposition staged protests in the Assembly with placards and banners on Monday demanding ouster of Excise Minister K. Babu and registering of case against him for alleged bribe-taking.

The Opposition also demanded that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was protecting Mr. Babu, should also quit.

When the Assembly began the first meeting of the session this morning with question hour, the Opposition sought to move an adjournment motion. The Speaker assured the Opposition that the motion would be taken up during the zero hour (after question hour).

The first question to be answered in the House was by Mr. Babu himself. This gave an added vigour to the Opposition protest.
