Performance of members of Lok Sabha from Kerala

Parliament buildingThiruvananthapuram: CPI (M) member of Lok Sabha P. K. Biju tops the list of members from Kerala who have participated the maximum number of debates in the House.

The member, representing Alathur constituency, has participated in 162 debates between June 2014 and May this year. He also has an attendance of 85 per cent.

Actor Innocent (LDF independent) and Muslim League leader E. Ahamed have participated in least number of debates – 14 each. Innocent is also having the lowest attendance (57 per cent) among members from Kerala, followed by E. Ahamed (60 per cent). Surprisingly, orator Shashi Thaoor (Congress, Thiruvananthapuram) and K. V. Thomas (Congress, Ernakulam) have participated in 39 and 15 debates only. The average for members from Kerala is 67.5.

Ramachandran Mullappally (Congress, Vadakara) ,  has the highest attendance among members from the State— 90 per cent.  Joice George (LDF independent, Idukki, and K. C. Venugopal (Congress, Alappuzha) have 85 per cent attendance.

C. N. Jayadevan (CPI-M, Thrissur), E. T. Mohammed Basheer (IUML, Ponnnani), N. K. Premachandran (RSP, Kollam), P. Karunakaran (CPI-M), Kasaragod) and Shashi Tharoor recorded attendance higher than 80 per cent. The average attendance of members from Kerala is 77. Only a few States such as West Bengal, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are behind Kerala in this respect.

The largest number of questions has been asked by Anto Antony (Congress, Pathanamthitta)—363, while E. Ahamed has asked the least number of questions from among members from Kerala—28.

M. K. Raghavan (Congress, Kozhikode) has given notice for 14 private members bills.
