Thiruvananthapuram: The Assembly began a three day discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address on Tuesday.
S. Sarma (CPI-M), who moved the motion, said that the people’s mandate for the LDF was to present a corruption free government and overcome the crisis in various spheres.
The previous government had failed to spend Plan funds totalling Rs. 26000 crores. Under its rule, growth in various sectors such as agriculture, industries and real estate had slackened. It had failed take any remedial steps.
He said that the setback for the UDF in the elections was the result of the taking the wrong path. However, it was yet to realise that. Never before had Congress faced a crisis as it was facing now.
Congress member Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that the government was showing political intolerance. Incidents such as the jailing of dalit women at Thalassery were clear indication of that.
V. S. Achuthanandan (CPI-M) said that the Governor’s Address indicated that the government would work for welfare and prosperity of the State. A new department, for instance, had been formed for welfare of women and children.
