New Delhi: Kerala government hopes to achieve 20 per cent growth in sales tax collection in 2016-17, Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac said in New Delhi on Sunday.
The government would also adopt an online system similar to the one used by Delhi government to achieve 24 per cent growth in value added tax collection last year.
Under the new system, the Finance Department would be able to access bill details from traders using the online software. This would help to make tax collection hassle free and avoid the practices of inspections and rains.
Dr. Isaac announced that the government would bring legislation, if necessary, to implement the new system.
The Minister earlier met Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal to learn about system.
