Speaker N. SakthanThiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly Speaker N. Sakthan will be pronouncing his decision on the petition filed by Kerala Congress (M) to disqualify former Government Chief Whip P. C. George from membership of the Assembly for defection on Friday.

The Speaker told the media here today that a judgment on the petition has to be pronounced irrespective of whether Mr. George proposed to resign before Friday. He had not received any communication from Mr. George on resigning membership.

The petition was filed by Government Chief Whip Thomas Unniyadan after Mr. George broke away from Kerala Congress (M) and campaigned against the UDF in the Aruvikkara by-election. The Speaker had held hearings on the petition. (Mr. George was removed from the post of Chief Whip after he started opposing Mr. Mani)

Mr. George announced in Kottayam that he would be putting down his papers on Thursday. His action would set an example for Mr. Mani who was resisting the demand for his (Mr. Mani’s) resignation as Minister.
