Extension of Kochi Metro to Ankamali to be considered later

Kochi Metro Rail coachKochi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced on Monday that the extension of Kochi Metro Rail to Ankamali would be considered later.

Inaugurating the mini civil station at Ankamali, the Chief Minister said that Nedubassery- Ankamali line would be considered after taking up the Thrikkakkara- West Kochi section.

He said that the construction of the final phase of the Metro was being completed in time after setting a countdown of 1095 days. With its commissioning, Kerala’s image as a State where development happens at a slow pace would change.

Meanwhile, the integration of the coaches for the Metro rail, which arrived at Muttom yard in Kochi on Sunday, is progressing. The trial runs will begin next week.

The system features driverless operations with communication based train control. Each coach can carry about 700 persons which can go up to 975 under jam-packed conditions. The coaches feature dynamic route map with announcements and LCD displays, four CCTV cameras in each coach, emergency intercom at doorways, fire-warning alarm, charging units for electronic devices and disabled friendly systems.
