Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to develop 20 major roads spread across 14 districts of the State.
The works will be funded from the cess (50 paise per litre) imposed on sale of petrol and diesel as per Budget proposals for 2015-16 Budget. Rs 2680 crore will be released from the pool over two years.
Works on ten roads costing Rs 1619 crore will be undertaken in the current financial year and the remaining ten costing Rs 1060 crore in the next financial year.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media that all procedures had been completed for starting the works of the first ten roads.

20 cents of land with KINFRA will be handed over to Kalamassery Municipality for the construction of a bus terminal at Kalamassery. 15.5 cents of land with the Department of Harbour Engineering will be handed over to Neendakara Coastal Police Station.
The stipend of students at Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University will be hiked from Rs. 1250 to Rs, 1500. All students of the university will get the benefit.
In order to enhance the performance efficiency of the Tribal department, sanction will be accorded for five posts of tribal extension officer and 29 posts of LD clerks.
