T. P. Sreenivasan attacked by SFI activist during protest

Thiruvananthapuram: Vice Chairman of Higher Education Council T. P. Sreenivasan was manhandled by one of the SFI activists protesting against Gobal Education Meet, Kerala 2006, and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Kovalam on Friday.

Mr. Sreenivasan sustained minor injuries and he resting at a house of a friend near Kovalam.

The attack happened as Mr. Sreenivasan was moving towards the venue of the Meet . He turned back when the protestors prevented him from proceeding.  Then, one of the protesters slapped him thrice and Mr. Sreenivasan fell down.  

The police, who was near him, did not come to his help.

The Meet is being organised for advancing international collaboration in higher education in the State.  The proposals to be discussed at the Meet include setting up of an Academic City and establishing of International Higher Education Zones.

The Chief Minister was to inaugurate the Meet this morning. However, all his public functions have been cancelled in view of Opposition protests demanding his resignation over solar scam.
