Thiruvananthapuram: AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi held discussions with KPCC executive, DCC Presidents and District heads of feeder organisations here on Wednesday. The discussions centered on strategy for the coming Assembly elections in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice president called for unity in the State unit of the party. “CPI (M) cannot defeat Congress party in Kerala, (but) the Congress can defeat Congress in Kerala.”
Advising senior leaders is to stand together; Mr. Gandhi said that Congress party is a family. Stand together like a family for the elections which are only few months ahead. “Work together. After elections, you can fight. I will come and listen to all your fights.”
He said that the NDA government was taking away the power the UPA government gave to the people. The NDA moved from one slogan to another, but nothing happened.
“Our job is to protect interests of poor people of this country, their rights; the BJP is not interested in that.”
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi liked to come up with an idea and would have a big media celebration around that idea, and then he moved to next idea.
“What little I have seen of PM Modi, he doesn't like to go into details too much. He likes to do his politics in the form of events.
“In Bihar we realised and understood exactly what BJP was trying to do and we got Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad and Congress together. We defeated BJP soundly in Bihar and they were stunned by the results.”
