Police lathicharge Youth Congress protesters

Thiruvananthapuram: Police resorted to lathicharge and water guns as youth congress protesters barged into the Secretariat compound on Monday.

The Youth Congress workers were protesting over the policies of the government with respect to the self-financing professional colleges. They disagreed with agreement reached by the government with managements of the colleges regarding admissions and fees.

The protesters repeatedly tried to cross police barricades and managed to jump over the compound walls of the Secretariat. The police arrested and removed the protesters including Youth Congress leader Dean Kuriakose.

Tension prevailed at the protest organised by the Youth Congress in Kochi also. The Police used water guns as protesters tried to climb over barricades.
