Opposition disrupts Assembly proceedings for the third day

Opposition protesting in Kerala Asssembly on ThursdayThiruvananthapuram: The Opposition disrupted the proceedings of Kerala Assembly for the third day on Thursday.

The Opposition moved into the well of the House following verbal duel with the ruling front members on the kind of language used by Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan against Congress leader K. Muraleedharan and others.  Mr. Muraleedharan had criticised Mr. Achuthandan yesterday for using unparliamentarily language against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

As Opposition members remained in the well of the House with loud arguments, the Speaker adjourned the House briefly.

Trouble began when the Opposition Leader started speaking on the adjournment motion given notice of by Elamaram Kareem (CPI-M) and other Opposition members after the Speaker refused permission to move the motion.

The Opposition Leader said that the Vigilance should have registered FIR against the Chief Minister, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and others in respect of irregularities in the award of contract for the pollution control plant at Travancore Titanium Limited here. However, the Vigilance Director was not doing so even after 20 days because the Chief Minister was involved.

Referring to the support offered by Mr. Muraleedharan to the Chief Minister, Mr. Achuthannadan said that former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran would have whipped Mr. Muraleedharan if he was alive.

When the House resumed sitting after the brief adjournment, Mr. Achuthanandan led a walk out in protest against the vigilance not registering case against Chief Minister and others.
