Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government has sent 100 policemen to Bangaluru to provide security for safe transit of Keralites who are stuck at various places in Karnataka.
The police will accompany vehicles from Mandya to Kerala border. Director General of Police Loknath Behera had discussions with his Karnataka counterpart in his regard.
One person has been killed and another injured in police firing at Rajagoplanagar in Bangaluru, reports reaching here said. Curfew is in force in 16 police station limits in Karnataka.
Various pro-Kannada organisations have called for a bandh on September 14 demanding a comprehensive agreement on Cauvery waters. Protests will continue till September 20. Protests will be taken out to IT companies on September 16 as they had not participated in the agitations so far. Trains will be blocked across Karnataka on September 15.
A train from Bangaluri (SBC) will depart for Thiruvananthapuram at 11.15 hrs on Tuesday. There will be connecting train to Kannur from Shornur. Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan has urged the Railways to operate additional services to Kerala, an official release said. The KSRTC has operated five buses to Kasaragod.
Kerala's transport secretary will reach Bangaluru on Tuesday to coordinate efforts for safe transit of Keralites. The police team has already reached Madya from where buses will be operated to Kerala.
