Kerala Assembly adjourns sine dieThiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly adjourned sine die on Tuesday.

The Assembly— which was on its first session after the general elections, sat for 15 days between June 2 and July 19.

The session began with swearing-in of members on June 2 and election of the Speaker on the next day.

The House resumed sitting on June 24 with the Governor’s policy address to the House. Finance Minister Thomas Isaac presented the revised Budget for the current on July 8. After a three-day general discussion on the Budget, the House passed a vote on account for three months.

It passed the Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualification) Amendment Bill on Tuesday before adjourning sine die. It was the only legislation to be passed by the House during the session.

Notices for seven adjournment motions came up during the session, though none of them were allowed to be moved. The Opposition staged walk-outs over denial of permission to move a few of those motions.

Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan said that more than 4700 questions had been answered in the House—38 of them on the floor of the House. Besides, ministers responded to 115 submissions. As many as 531 papers and two committee reports were laid on the table.

The House also adopted a substantive motion against merger of State Bank of Travancore with State Bank of India.

The House has 141 members including a nominated member of whom 44 are new.
