Congress will not compromise on corruption: Rahul Gandhi

AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi addressing valeditory of Janaraksha Yatra in Trivandrum on TuesdayThiruvananthapuram: AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi said here on Tuesday that the Congress would not compromise on corruption.

If there is an iota of concrete evidence of corruption, the party would take strict and immediate action, the vice president said while inaugurating the valedictory of the Janaraksha Yatra led by KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran.

Urging Congress workers and leaders to stand united for the people of Kerala, Mr. Gandhi said that Congress was to fight the coming Assembly elections in a united way.

He said that the Union government was one that crushed students and robbed the poor.  It was trying to destroy several initiatives of the previous government such as the Food Security Act and Right to Information Act.  Narendra Modi had come to power spreading anger between different sections of the society, and he did not keep his promises to farmers such as fair price for their produce.

Mr. Gandhi said that the ideology of the left parties was an obsolete one that belonged to the last century. Kerala could not build a future with obsolete ideology. It needed industrial growth and economic progress.

He noted that the UDF government in Kerala had delivered projects such as Kochi Metro. It was the first to start a start-up village, much before Mr. Modi thought of that. The Chief Minister listened to the problems of people by reaching out to them.

A. K. Antony and Rahul Gandhi at valeditory of Janaraksha Yatra in TrivandrumCongress leader A. K. Antony urged the people that the BJP should not be allowed open account in Kerala where Sree Nayarana Guru told the masses that they need only better themselves as human being whichever be their religion.

Mr. Sudheeran said that the Yatra, taken out against communalism and intolerance of the ruling class at the Centre, was a success. The land of Kerala would not encourage communalism.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the BJP would not open account in Kerala.

Mr. Rahul Gandhi will be attending a meeting of KPCC executive on Wednesday to deliberate on strategies for the election campaign. Top leaders and office bearers of party from various levels would attend.
