Thiruvananthapuram: About 20 million voters will be going to the polling booths on Monday to elect 140 representatives to the Kerala Assembly.
The State has an electorate of 26 million. About three fourth of them are expected to cast their votes.
The polling percentage in Kerala has never gone below 70 since 1960. In the last elections (2011), the polling percentage was 72.5 per cent.
The number of voters has gone up this year by about three million over that of 2011. This is an unusually high increase. Such hefty increase in voters has been noticed only between 1987 and 1991.
Chief Electoral Officer said here on Sunday that all arrangements for the polling were complete. The polling would begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm. All voters in the queue at 6 pm would be allowed to vote.
About 52000 police men including Central forces have been deployed for security. There are about 1300 sensitive booths in the State.
