1.75 lakh houses to be built under the Housing for All scheme

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday approved building of 1.75 lakh houses under the Housing for All scheme for BPL families and other low income groups with or without land.

Apartments will be built for 75000 the landless families. For 75000 families with land, loans will be provided with interest subsidy. Besides, 22000 houses will be built for the poorest of poor with one house in each ward.

The project will be carried out in three phases with local bodies and the government sharing the cost equally. In the first phase, 29000 houses will be constructed. Priority will be for beneficiaries of MN Housing scheme whose houses needed to be rebuilt, people who had given applications during the mass contact programme of Chief Minister and those identified as homeless during survey for the scheme.
