LSG polls: Second phase of of polling tomorrow

The second phase covers 12651 wards of three-tier panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations in the remaining seven districts— Pathanamthitta,  Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad. As many as 44388 candidates are in the fray in these districts.

76.2 per cent polling in LSG polls in Kerala

Voters turned up in rain coats on account copious rains in ThiruvananthapuramOver 76 per cent of the electorate has voted in the first phase of the polling in the elections to the local bodies in Kerala.

Sporadic incidents of violence marred the election in Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts. A polling booth agent reportedly lost his eye sight in a clash near Payyannur.

Campaign for first phase of LSG polls ends

Campaign postersPublic campaign for the first phase of elections to the local self governments ended at 5 pm on Saturday.

Polling will take place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on November 2. As many as 31161 candidates are contesting from 9200 wards in the seven districts.

Mani faces opposition in his own party

Dissent has surfaced in the Kerala Congress (M) over Finance Minister K. M. Mani’s refusal to resign as Minister against the background of the finding of the Vigilance Court that there was prima facie a case against the Minister in bar-bribery case.
