Thiruvananthapuram (updated on Nov. 16): About 70 people have died and property damaged in torrential rains in Tamil Nadu during the past five days. Flights and train services have been hit during the past few days. Road traffic was disrupted by flooding and fallen trees in Chennai and suburbs. Several of the Chennai roads are in knee-deep water.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly Speaker N. Sakhthan disqualified former Government Chief Whip P. C. George for defection with effect from June 3.
The Speaker did not accept his resignation tendered on Thursday. The disqualification will be for the remaining term of 13th Kerala Assembly. It will not be in the way of his contesting future elections.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Government Chief Whip P. C. George submitted his resignation as member of the Assembly to the Speaker here today.
Mr. George’s resignation comes when the Speaker is to pronounce his verdict on the petition seeking Mr. George’s disqualification for defection in a petition filed by Government Chief Whip Thomas Unniyadan (Kerala Congress-M).

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan today wrote to the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau calling upon it to register a first information report against Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu for bribe-taking.
The Opposition Leader told the media that he would approach the courts if the Bureau failed to register a case against Mr. Babu.
