Kerala Assembly Speaker protests

Speaker N. SakthanSpeaker N. Sakthan today kept off from chairing the House in the morning reportedly in protest against Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala criticising him for asking members to cut short their speeches on Bills on Wednesday.

Oppostion stages walk-out in the Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition staged a walk out in the Kerala Assembly today after the Chair refused permission to move an adjournment motion on deficiencies in the Health Sector and death of tribals for want of proper treatment.

Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar, who opposed the notice to move the motion, said that government had ordered an enquiry into the death of a tribal girl in Achankovil and death of infants in Wayanad after delivery. Preliminary report was that the girl had died before reaching the hospital.

Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the country would continue to strengthen its defence capabilities and infrastructure, engage our neighbours more closely and strengthen our regional and global partnerships, including in maritime security.

The Prime Minister was addressing the Combined Commanders Conference on board INS Vikramaditya at Sea, off the coast of Kochi.

Governor P. Sathasivam, Oommen Chandy and other dignitaries received him at the naval airport. From the airport, the Prime Minister went to Thrissur where he is to address a public meeting organised by the BJP.

Opposition disrupts Kerala Assembly, climbs on the Speaker's podium

MLAs on Speaker's podiumThe Opposition climbed on to the podium of the Speaker in Kerala Assembly on Monday and disrupted the proceedings.

The Opposition was protesting against the Speaker rejecting a notice given by Opposition to move an adjournment motion alleging that the government was undermining the functioning of the Solar Inquiry Commission.
