High speed rail under preliminary stage of consideration: Chandy

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Tuesday that the high speed rail project was only in its preliminary stage of consideration.

An elevated line is proposed for the project. The concerns and doubts of affected people would have to be addressed. The plan was to keep land acquisition to the minimum. Besides, the owners of land would be taken into confidence.

Test flight from Kannur airport on February 29

Construction of runway of Kannuar airport in progess last wekFirst test flight from Kannur greenfield airport will take off on February 29, Minister for Excise, Fisheries and Ports K. Babu announced in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Airport would start commercial operations from September this year. During the first stage from 2016-19 to 2025-26, facilities would be provided for landing of aircraft from UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
