Commission orders furnishing of details of Cabinet decisions under RTI Act

Kerala Information CommissionThe State Information Commission has ordered that details of Cabinet decisions should be furnished to applicants under Right to Information Act.

Chief Information Commissioner Vinson M. Paul said in his order on an appeal petition filed by D. B. Binu of Human Rights Defence Forum, Kochi, that the exemptions provided under the Act did not cover matters on which decisions had been taken.

Assembly to resume sitting on Friday: Budget on July 8

Kerala AssemblyThiruvananthapuram: The Assembly resumes its first session on Friday (June 24) with the Address by Governor P. Sathasivam, and the new government presents its revised Budget for 2016-17 on July 8.

Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac, who is to present the revised Budget, will be dropping all the new proposals in the Budget presented by the previous government while retaining schemes included in the detailed Budget estimates. According to Dr. Isaac, the budgeted schemes could be reviewed by the ministers concerned later.

Kerala to introduce online system for VAT collection

Kerala government hopes to achieve 20 per cent growth in sales tax collection in 2016-17, Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac said in New Delhi on Sunday.

The government would also adopt an online system similar to the one used by Delhi government to achieve 24 per cent growth in value added tax collection last year.

Heavy rain in South Kerala

Rain cloudsHeavy rain lashed Thiruvananthapuram and Southern parts of Kerala on Saturday. Many houses were damaged.

Many low lying areas including parts of Kollam city were flooded. The spillway shutters of Bhoothathankettu dam was opened in view of heavy inflow into the reservoir.
