T. S. John Kerala Assembly paid homage to former Speaker T. S. John on Monday .

Making an obituary reference, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan recalled that Kerala had lost a capable leader in the death of John.

A founder leader of Kerala Congress, John served as Speaker from February 17, 1976 to March 25, 1977. He was Minister for Food and Civil Supplies for about a year in the late seventies. He passed away on June 9.

Suspense over liquor policy

“My Government is of the view that restrictions on consumption of liquor have not yielded the desired positive impact. The increase in the use and availability of drugs in the State is disturbing. The opinion of people of all sections of the society will be taken into account before my Government formulates its policy stand,” the Governor said.

Twenty five lakh job vacancies to be created in next five years

Governor P. Sathasivam said in the Assembly on Friday that the government proposed to create 25 lakh job opportunities in the next five years.

Of these, 10 lakh jobs would be in Information Technology, Bio-Technology, Tourism, Electronics and other emerging areas and 15 lakh jobs in agriculture, construction, commerce and small industries. The government also aimed to provide skill training to 10 lakh youth.

Government to bring new IT policy

Thiruvananthapuram: The government proposes to bring a comprehensive IT policy in consultation with all the stakeholders in two months, Governor P. Sathasivam announced in the Assembly on Friday.

Emphasis shall be given to increase the employability of our youth in tune with the changing demands of the IT industry, he added in his address to the House.
