Achuthanandan named Chairman of Reforms Commission

V. S. Achuthanandan (file photo)Kerala Cabinet decided to set up the proposed Administrative Reforms Commission with veteran CPI (M) leader V. S. Achuthanandan as Chairman on Wednesday.

He will have Cabinet rank with facilities including personal staff. Former chief secretaries C. P. Nair and Neela Gangadharan will be members with the rank of Chief Secretary.

The Cabinet decided to appoint new collectors for 12 districts on Wednesday. Kollam Collector Shainamol has been shifted to Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram Collector Biju Prabhakar posted as Director of Agriculture.

Saudi Arabia to renew work permits of Indians who lost their jobs

Union Minister of State V. K. Singh, who is in Jeddah, is coordinating efforts to help Indian who lost their jobs.  The Indians, numbering about 8000, are staying in 20 camps in Saudi Arabia. Of them, there are about 300 Keralites.

Appointment of Economic Advisor: CPI (M) polit bureau not to intervene

CPI (M) polit bureau will not intervene in the controversy over appointment of Harvard professor Gita Gopinath as economic advisor to Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan, Asianet television reported on Sunday.

Veteran CPI (M) leader V. S. Achuthanandan had written to the polit bureau noting that Ms. Gopinath was proponent of views opposed to that of the CPI (M).
