Chandy urges Centre to simplify eMigrate system

Chief Minister Oommen ChandyChief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday urged the Union Minister for External Affairs Sushama Swaraj to simplify foreign employer registration procedure under the recently introduced the eMigrate system for recruitment of nurses.

In a memorandum to the Union Minister, the Chief Minister said that Health ministries from none of the countries with emigration clearance requirement had positively responded to the new system even though some discussions have been initiated by the Indian Missions and Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs with officials in Kuwait, KSA and Oman.

Hotels get fast online service for renewal of bar licences

Service deliveryDespite all the talk about implementation of right to services, the first services from Kerala to go online on the national eservice portal are not those meant for the common man but for the bar hotels.

The portal now lists nine services but only seven are available on login.  Of them, four relates to bar licences and the rest to registration as approved suppliers to Government under Stores Purchase Department.

Forest Department denies entry to women at Agastya peak

Agastya PeakKerala Forest Department is denying permission to women to visit Agasthyarkoodam (Agastya peak) in Thiruvananthapuram district during the current season as part of its trekking programme.

The announcement made by the Department states that women, besides children below 14 years of age, could not apply for trekking. Activists point out that this was in violation of equality under the Constitution.

No permission to Jacob Thomas for legal action against Chief Minister

Director General of Police Jacob ThomasThe Government has refused permission to Director General of Police Jacob Thomas to take legal actions against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for allegedly disparaging remarks made by the Chief Minister against the police officer.

The Chief Minister, who had stated that he would only be too willing to grant the permission, today said that the Cabinet had disagreed with him. Ministers felt that it was not his personal issue but an administrative matter.

Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson had taken the stand that permission could not be given to an officer to file case against head of the government.
