Lawyers attack media persons in Thiruvananthapuram

Media centre-- an abusive poster can be seenSeveral journalists, an advocates’ clerk and a pedestrian were injured in stone throwing by a section of the advocates at the Vanchiyoor district court complex here on Thursday.

Tension prevailed at the gates of the complex after some lawyers attacked media persons who were leaving the complex. A vehicle of Asianet News was damaged in stone throwing. Anulal (Jeevan TV), Praveen (Jaihind) television, Ramakrishnan (ACV), Siyad (Media One), V. S. Biju (Mathrubhoomi News) Gopan Krishna of Chandrika and Rejiv of Kerala Kaumudi were among the injured. Cameras of Manorama News and Mathrubhoomi News were damaged.

Tourist arrivals to Kerala increase

Tea gardensThiruvananthapuram: Tourist arrivals to Kerala have gone up by more than 1.2 lakhs during the last two years.

The number of foreign tourist visits which was 858143 in 2013 went up to 923366 in 2014 and to 977479 in 2015.

There was overall increase in tourist arrivals to South India. While arrivals to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka went up, visits to Tamil Nadu were almost stagnant.

The Assembly at for 15 days between June 2 and July 19. It was the first session after the general elections that began with the swearing-in of members.

Seed bank to conserve and promote traditional seed varieties

Thiruvananthapuram: A seed bank of international standards to conserve and promote traditional seed varieties will be set up in the State, Minister for Agriculture V. S. Sunil Kumar informed the Assembly on Tuesday. 

Sale of such seed varieties will be promoted through Agro bazaars too. In this regard a program of ‘seed to market’ would be promoted to support farmers, the Minister said.

Opposition boycotts adoption of Bill

Opposition boycotts fag end of sitting on TuesdayKerala Assembly passed the Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualifications) Amendment Bill in the absence of UDF members on Tuesday.

The UDF members led by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala boycotted the fag end of the sitting saying that they could not be part of the proceedings to adopt the Bill.
