Beware of extremists misleading students: Chief Minister

Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan inspecting Independence Day Parade in Thiruvananthapuram on MondayChief Minister Pinarai Vijayan on Monday called for vigilance in families and local communities against students being misled into camps of communalists and terrorists.

Addressing the Independence Day Parade here, the Chief Minister said that extremists were trying to brainwash people by turning spirituality and religious beliefs into false spirituality and communal hatred. Families and the local communities should ensure that students going to schools and place of worship were going nowhere else.

Cabinet proposes extensive market intervention during Onam

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to undertake extensive market intervention to keep prices of essential commodities under check during Onam season.

Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan told the media after the Cabinet meeting that 1464 Onam markets including 56 special Onam markets would organised during the festival season.

Of the Budget allocation of Rs. 150 crore for the current year, Rs. 81.43 crore would be allocated for Supplyco and Rs. 4.60 crore for Onam markets. Rs. 45 crore would be provided for market intervention.

State Planning Board expanded

Kerala State Planning BoardThiruvananthapuram: The government has expanded the State Planning Board with official and non-official members.

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to nominate Minister Thomas Isaac, E. Chandrasekharan, A. K. Saseendran and Ramachandran Kadannappally as members.

P. Jayaraman and R. Ramakumar (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai), K. N. Harilal (Centre for Development Studies), K. Ravi Raman (Nehru Memorial Museum and Library), Jayan Jose Thomas (Indian Institute of Technology), Dr. B. Ekbal and  Mrudul Eappen will be non-official members.

Achuthanandan named Chairman of Reforms Commission

V. S. Achuthanandan (file photo)Kerala Cabinet decided to set up the proposed Administrative Reforms Commission with veteran CPI (M) leader V. S. Achuthanandan as Chairman on Wednesday.

He will have Cabinet rank with facilities including personal staff. Former chief secretaries C. P. Nair and Neela Gangadharan will be members with the rank of Chief Secretary.
