The meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan to find solutions to the stray dog menace on Monday decided to engage trained dog catchers to catch and sterilise stray dogs.
The meeting was convened against the background of stray dogs killing an aged woman at Pulluvila recently.
In areas where stray dog menace is serious, the sterilisation drive will start from September 1. Camps will be organised for this purpose.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Friday approved a one-time debt relief scheme aimed to help low income groups facing revenue recovery for loans taken from various government agencies.
The scheme, which will cover persons who have paid back twice the principal, will include interest concessions.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan and Travancore Devaswom president Prayar Gopalakrishnan have differed over VIP visits to Sabarimala at a review meeting held on Thursday.
Mr. Vijayan wanted the Devaswom Board to disallow VIP visits and introduce a paid system similar to that at Tirupati. Mr. Vijayan also wanted the Sabarimala temple to open on all days.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan maintained that preferred treatment for VIPs could not be done away with.

Thiruvananthapuram: Director General of Police Loknath Behra has asked highway patrol and night patrol teams of police to check on automatic teller machines in the area of their charge regularly.
They should look for suspicious equipment and networks connected to ATMs and check the backside of ATM kiosks for damage or unauthorised equipment.
