Vice president  Hamid Ansari inaugurates second phase of e-literacy programme in Thiruvananthapuram on August 30Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari said on Tuesday that the e-literacy programme of Kerala is an outstanding attempt at empowering the citizens.

Inaugurating the second phase of State’s total e-Literacy and commencement of the Digital Libraries programmes here, the Vice president said that e-literacy skills will make it possible for them to participate productively in the global society and the information age.

Talks between government and private medical college managements fail

Thiruvananthapuram: Talks between managements of private self-financing medical colleges and Health Minister K. K. Shayaja failed on Monday.

Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan will now hold discussions with the managements to resolve the deadlock.

Trains cancelled, rescheduled, diverted

Passengers waiting for train at Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station on August 28A large number of trains have been cancelled, rescheduled or diverted following the derailment of Mangalore Express at Karukutty near Aluwa.

Five long distance trains have been diverted via Tirunelveli-Erode. They are Thiruvananthapuram- Mumbai, Kanyukumari-Bangalore, Alappuzha-Dhanbad, Thiruvananthapuram-Gorakhpur-Raptisagar and Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad trains. Kerala Express to New Delhi and Guwahati Express from here are also being diverted via Tirunelveli.

Managalore Express derails

Derailed Mangalore Express at Karukutty on August 28Thiruvananthapuram- Mangalore Express which left Thiruvananthapuram  at 20.40 hrs last night derailed near Karukutty near Aluva around 1.45 am.

As many as 12 coaches have been derailed, but no casualty has been reported. A few passengers suffered minor injuries.

Vigilance enquiry against Mani to continue

K. M. ManiThiruvananthapuram: The vigilance court here has ordered that investigation into the bar-bribery case against former Minister K. M. Mani should be continued.

Superintendent of Police R. Sukesan, who had investigated the case earlier, had approached the court alleging that then Director of Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau had undermined the case.
